Habitat Happenings

Update from Amy Gibbs, Executive Director...

As we head into fall, there is so much happening at Cadillac Area Habitat for Humanity, and I continue to be amazed by the generosity and support of the communities we serve.

Our construction team continues to make great progress on our homes, our volunteers are showing up and giving their time and talents, and our community partners continue to step forward to support our mission. Every home built, repair completed, and ramp installed represents more than a project—it represents a family or individual gaining greater safety, stability, and independence.

We are especially grateful for the volunteer groups joining us this fall, including Horizon Bank and Zion Lutheran Church. Partnerships like these are a reminder that Habitat’s mission truly takes a community. Whether someone swings a hammer, makes a financial gift, serves on a committee, shops or donates at the ReStore, or simply shares our story, every contribution helps move our mission forward.

As we look ahead, we are also preparing for our next Partner Family application period in the month of October. One of the greatest privileges of our work is walking alongside families as they put in their sweat equity, prepare for homeownership, and ultimately receive the keys to a place they can call their own.

At Habitat, we believe in a hand up, not a handout. We aren't simply building houses—we're helping build stronger families, greater stability, and brighter futures throughout Wexford, Osceola, and Missaukee Counties.

Thank you for believing in our mission and continuing to be part of it. We couldn't do this work without you!

Blessings!

Did you know that a land donation can help build brighter futures for local families?

At Cadillac Area Habitat for Humanity, land donations play a vital role in making homeownership possible. Your unused property could become the site of a safe and affordable home, offering a fresh start for a family in need.

Plus, land donations may offer valuable tax benefits for you or your estate.

Leave a lasting legacy in our community. To learn more about how you can turn land into hope, visit our website or contact us directly.

We are specifically in need of land in the OSCEOLA and MISSAUKEE COUNTIES.

Together, we’re building more than homes; we’re building futures.

Update from Ben Banks, ReStore Manager...

Our Cadillac Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore continues to be an important part of our mission and a great resource for our community!

Every donation and purchase at the ReStore helps support our work of building and repairing homes throughout Wexford, Osceola, and Missaukee counties. When you shop, donate, or volunteer at the ReStore, you are helping Habitat provide safe and affordable housing for local families.

We are incredibly thankful for our dedicated ReStore team and volunteers who work hard each day accepting donations, assisting customers, and keeping the store running smoothly.

Have items you no longer need? Donate them! Looking for a great deal? Shop with us! Want to make a difference? Volunteer!

Your support of the ReStore helps us build homes, hope, and a stronger community—one family at a time.

Update from Evan Stieg, Construction Manager...

Mark Lane
Great progress continues at 1581 Mark Lane! The soffit, fascia, and siding are now complete. Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC rough-ins have also been completed and passed inspection.

Coming up, volunteers from Horizon Bank will be joining us to help with insulation, weather sealing, and building a ramp. We’re grateful for their partnership and willingness to lend a hand!

Walnut Street
We’re nearing the finish line at our Walnut Street rehab! Remaining work includes painting, installing vents and outlet covers, and completing final touch-ups. The concrete driveway will also be going in soon.

An upcoming volunteer group from Zion Lutheran Church will be helping us tackle some of the final projects and get this home ready for our Partner Family!

Storage Sheds
Gravel bases have been completed for storage sheds at four of our build sites, getting them ready for the next step.

Thank you to all of our volunteers and community partners who continue to help move these projects forward. Your hands-on support makes a difference!

Update from Lester Gingrich, Administrative Assistant...

I’m a LeRoy native who recently returned to Northern Michigan after spending 10 years in South Carolina, where I worked at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. I decided to move back home to be closer to family and friends, and I’m excited to once again be part of the Northern Michigan community.

In my free time, I enjoy playing guitar, golfing and disc golfing, hiking, camping, gaming, and watching movies. I’m also a big Michigan Wolverines and Detroit Lions fan, so during football season, you can usually find me cheering on my teams every Saturday and Sunday.

Most of all, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I’m looking forward to bringing my experience and enthusiasm to the Habitat for Humanity team and serving the community.

Update from Mike Tower, Home Repair Coordinator…

Gone are the long hot summer days as we transition into crisp cool autumn mornings. As we trade lake trips and backyard barbecues for school backpacks, Friday night lights, and the cozy scent of changing leaves, the work of keeping our communities warm and secure continues.

Our home repair program is continuing full steam ahead. We are actively coordinating with our partner families, dedicated local contractors, and Habitat for Humanity of Michigan to make steady progress with ongoing projects. Summer and early fall remain our busiest seasons, and we are deeply grateful to our contractors for providing such high-quality work for our neighbors.

To ensure we can give our current projects the dedicated attention they deserve, and as we approach the end of our current funding cycle, we are not accepting new Home Repair Program applications at this time. We anticipate reopening the application process later this year once additional funding becomes secured.

Please continue to check our website and follow us on Facebook for updates on when applications will officially reopen.

Thank you for your continued support of our Home Repair Program. Together, we are helping neighbors remain safely in the homes they love while building stronger communities.
